The White Tiger Trailer teases an incredible story of a lower caste Indian boy who was taught to dream of being a servant but learns to take control of his destiny
From acclaimed direct Ramin Bahrani comes the tale of The White Tiger. Based on the New York Times bestseller by Aravind Adiga, The White Tiger is about a guy named Balram Halwai’s (Adarsh Gourav) darkly humorous rise from poor villager to successful “entrepreneur” in modern India. The film also stars Rajkummar Rao and Priyanka Chopra Jonas who is also an Executive Producer. The film is set to release in select theaters in January and on Netflix globally on January 22nd.
The film looks great. I’m not sure if it’s the cultural climate or what, but I enjoy movies about people rising up and taking down those who would keep them down unjustly. However, as incredible as the film looks, I feel the trailer gave way too much away. Granted there could definitely still be some twists and it might not even have a happy ending, but I feel protagonist’s journey is far too laid out. A poor kid works for seemingly nice masters. The poor kid learns more about the world and himself, broadening his views and realizing his own potential. Master’s true view of poor kid revealed. Poor kid gets tired of it after one degrading thing too many and decides to break the cycle. Then he announces that the title is his name. It’s too much information.
Other than that, I’m still very excited for the film as it looks great and hoping for a major twist not revealed in the trailer. Again, the film releases into select theaters in January and globally on Netflix on January 22nd.
