Although, March was Women’s History Month, DC Comics is still paying them homage with Justice League: The Darkseid Wars Special #1.
As Jessica is searching for a way to escape the grasp of Volthoom and the suffocation of power ring of Earth-3 and the Crime Syndicate, we are introduced to an Amazon named Myrina, the greatest Assassin of all the Amazonian Warriors and her target was the New God, Darkseid. Unfortunately, even though Myrina was successful, their relationship spawned a child called Grail who shares with her the existence of the “anti-life” that puts them in constant fear as it is the most powerful of all the superpowers to ever exist.
Grail is looking beyond controlling the power to find out what it really unlocks and that search can only lead to madness by doing the work of the Old Gods. She was born on the same night as Wonder Woman as Zeus flooded half the world on the night they were born. Grail was born in the forbidden mountains, claiming that if Hippolyta had known about her she would have been slaughtered that night.
This was a powerful origin story that will revitalize the world belonging to Wonder Woman and all that the Justice League will have to contend with in years to come. Geoff Johns is one of the top brass at DC Comics for a reason and when given a single character to work with, it’s almost magical.
The artistic team is too numerous to list individually, but as you can seen from the cast of creators above, it took all their talents to make this story pop. This new anti-hero/villain is going to reek havoc on anyone that comes in contact with her and with Rebirth on the horizon, we can only hope to see what the new DCU will have in store for its fans.
