With his last two films, Blue Ruin and Green Room, director Jeremy Saulnier has established himself as a modern master of suspense. Naturally, his next film would be highly anticipated and today brings the first trailer for Saulnier’s upcoming Netflix thriller Hold the Dark. The film is set to premiere at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival ahead of its debut on the streaming service on September 28, 2018. And if this trailer is any indication, Hold the Dark is going to be one intense movie full of bloody violence and cutthroat tension.
Hold the Dark is an adaptation of the novel by William Giraldi, with frequent Saulnier collaborator Macon Blair penning the screenplay. Hot off his two acclaimed thrillers, Saulnier was able to secure an all-star cast for Hold the Dark, headlined by Jeffrey Wright, Riley Keough, Alexander Skarsgård, and James Badge Dale. Check out the trailer below and bundle up because Hold the Dark and its chilly suspense is coming to Netflix in a little over a month on September 28, 2018.
The official synopsis for Hold the Dark:
Retired naturalist and wolf expert Russell Core (JEFFREY WRIGHT) journeys to the edge of civilization in northern Alaska at the pleading of Medora Slone (RILEY KEOUGH), a young mother whose son was killed by a pack of wolves. As Core attempts to help Medora track down the wolves who took her son, a strange and dangerous relationship develops between the two lonely souls.
But when Medora’s husband Vernon (ALEXANDER SKARSGARD) returns home from the Iraq War, the news of his child’s death ignites a violent chain of events. As local cop, Donald Marium (JAMES BADGE DALE), races to stop Vernon’s vengeful rampage, Core is forced on a perilous odyssey into the heart of darkness.
