The beloved husband-and-wife creative team of Jimmy Palmiotti and Amanda Conner can only surprise me if they actually write something bad. Ever since I was introduced to them with their Power Girl run, I was never disappointed with their work. Now with a new Harley Quinn book, Harley’s Little Black Book, it seems that Palmiotti and Conner have delved into the lives of everyone who has had a seriously crazy ex-girlfriend and rolled them up into one hilarious fruit loop, who five years after the break up can finally be laughed at.
Who else would be loony enough to take on Wonder Woman and steal her costume? It’s always hard reading a Harley Quinn story because at some point she’ll remind me of one crazy ex or another…I really need to find a higher caliber of girlfriend — anyway, this series has legs. It’s funny, it’s colorful with a hint of darkness because you know at any point, she can go Mr. J on you, turning you into a masochist that enjoys the mind games.
Conner along with John Timms paint a visual story that’s just as funny if you ignored the conversation balloons. I read it twice, which seems to be a common trend in the peripheral books than the main DC Comics canon. This is a fun Harley Quinn book that will easily be enjoyed by fans of the character.
