From the Escape Event Pros at Scrap Entertainment, Real Escape Game in Los Angeles hosts “Escape from the Time Travel Lab”!
If you’ve never heard of an Escape Room, it’s pretty much exactly what you think it is. It’s like a suspense movie or video game come to life; try to solve the clues left behind and deduce diabolical riddles worthy of the most twisted puzzle masters. If you’ve never heard of Scrap Entertainment & their Real Escape Game locations, you won’t believe how many unique rooms they have featured and how many more are on the way!
“It really is incredible, like their massive escape event, Escape From AT&T Stadium, where over 6,000 people had to work co-currently together to break out! They don’t have to work with each other, but they all have to work at the same time.”
Escape Rooms, like suspense games and movies, may all have a similar theme, but they can vary in story, events, and genre. This time, FanboyNation was lucky enough to be invited out to experience Escape from the Time Travel Lab over in Little Tokyo. Time Lab was a fresh take on the idea of escape rooms, shying away from the typical horror Saw-esque maniac killer setup and instead, escape is motivated by the impending doom of the STD! (Spatiotemporal Distortion, not to be confused as the other thing…)
The first step was creating a team; we gathered our smartest, most intelligent, and creative guys at FanboyNation (what I really mean, is the guys who were available). Real Escape Games recommends at least six individuals in your group but they can accommodate up to eleven. Of course, the less people you have, the less likely you are to make it out.
Escape from the Time Travel Lab begins the moment you walk in the door; you’re greeted by the staff and they explain in character the rules of the game while simultaneously expositing the epilogue. Hope you’re good at listening!
Once we were led into the game area, our team got right to work piecing together the story and tearing up the room searching for anything not bolted to the ground. What impressed me the most with the Real Escape Game team is how much creativity and ingenuity went into using their space. The creators stuck with the KISS principle, proving simplicity works better than complexity. As a result, the game plays out very smoothly where one event follows another, adding to the adrenaline rush of solving clues. In the end we almost escaped, (literally two more puzzles and we would have been out of there!) but we didn’t feel too bad, since before you even step inside there’s a board with the exact number of groups who’ve made it out next to the number of those who’ve tried. Regardless of escaping or not, at the end of gameplay the Escape from the Time Travel Lab staff will walk you through the clues and give you a sense of your performance.
For some insight on Escape from the Time Travel Lab, we had the pleasure of interviewing the director of Scrap Entertainment Los Angeles, Willa Lim, and we even got some thoughts from a lucky couple who joined in on our game. Check out the video below!
This event will run $29 a person. It may seem like sort of a steep price for about an hour of play time, but the experience is phenomenal. They offer many time slots Friday through Sunday; don’t worry if you can’t get enough people to form a team, you can always make some new friends and jump in with another group booked on a time slot. Although, there’s not much replay value when it comes to an escape room, Real Escape Game has you covered; they feature a new unique room regularly, like these two which are planned to open in the next month!
“If you recognized Real Zero Escape, you may have an advantage because you know that this room will follow the story and events based off the game!”
Remember, each room is a one time opportunity only for a set certain period of time. So make sure to stay up to date and check out their up and coming events on their website, Real Escape Game.
