‘Deep Throat‘ the 1972 adult film that took industry mainstream is receiving a Golden Anniversary 4K restoration and limited theatrical rerelease this summer.

The 1970s were definitely interesting times. There was a war in Vietnam, a sexual revolution, Roe v Wade was a landmark case and a new wave of filmmakers had taken the industry by storm coming fresh out of the universities instead of being trained by the studies.
Part of that sexual revolution of the era was the adult film industry going mainstream and that is thanks to a movie by Gerard Damiano Sr. entitled ‘Deep Throat‘.
I had always assumed the movie was named after the Richard Nixon informant nickname, but it turns out as, Gerard Damiano Jr. corrected me in the interview, it was the other way around. He even mentions that former first lady, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis stood in line with the crowd in New York City to be apart of all the buzz.
Now, as we hit the 50th Anniversary celebration of the landmark film in the fight for freedom of speech, ‘Deep Throat‘ receives a 4K Restoration for the limited theatrical rerelease.

- June 10th Roxy Cinema Tribeca 16mm screening with a post-screening panel discussion comprised of notable Porn Stars from the era and historians. Very elegant venue attached to the Roxy Hotel. Sneak Peek of the restored version will be shown to promote the event on June 12.
- June 12th the Slipper Room3 screenings of the 4K restored version of the film over the course of the evening with VIP ticketing and a burlesque show as well as a DJ. World renowned venue.
- During month of June Museum of Sex is a month-long run of their Porno Chic to sex positivity exhibit. Memorabilia from the film, along with select items from private collection of Gerard Damiano Sr will be on display.
All event screenings for this pop culture phenom timed to the film’s 50th anniversary for the first time in decades will offer Q&As with the filmmaker’s son Gerard Damiano Jr. a filmmaker in his own right, and daughter Christar – who can offer illuminating context to the film that helped to create the Adult Film Industry. Damiano Films holds the rights to their father’s most important feature films. A documentary on “Deep Throat” director Gerard Damiano Sr. helmed by Damiano Jr. is currently in the works.
