Two of the greatest superhero games are being bundled and updated in Batman: Return to Arkham
Batman: Return to Arkham has just been announced by WB. Interactive Entertainment and DC entertainment today. This “new” game brings Batman: Arkham Asylum and Batman: Arkham City to the Xbox One and PS4. Both remastered by Virtuous using the Unreal Engine 4. The bundle will also include all of the DLC, which will also be remastered. The game is set to release on July 29th in the UK, so the US should be around that time too.
Personally, I am excited to own all the games for one console and hope for a special collector’s edition. The Arkham series is hands down one of my favorite gaming franchises. Excellent story telling, ground-breaking graphics, and completely engulfing gameplay. It is as close to being the Dark Knight as most will ever get, and hands down one of the best incarnations of the character. Not to mention the greatest voice cast to ever embody the characters. Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill will forever be the voices of Batman and Joker in my head while I read the comics. (For the record I don’t have voices in my head).
However, if you are part of the master race, updated graphics mean little to nothing to you. The trailer doesn’t seem to make a revolutionary leap forward in graphics. Also, the Arkham Asylum and City are constantly going on sale with all of their DLC content during digital retail sales. I picked up both of them up for less than $5 a piece. As great as the Unreal Engine 4 is, I doubt it’ll improve on the graphics I can fully render already. I hope to be wrong, as Arkham games are one of the few I replay here and there. But I guess we’ll just wait and see. What do you think? Comment below if you’re excited, or maybe you think it’s just some cash grab, or maybe something else.
