The owls are not what they seem. The legendary show from creators David Lynch and Mark Frost, Twin Peaks, lasted all of two seasons in the early ’90s, but it’s short run was incredibly influential with many pointing to it as the first big show in what is now commonly known as the Golden Age of Television. In 2017, the unimaginable happened: Twin Peaks returned. It was a glorious season of television, a mind-bending exercise in serialized storytelling that once again pushed the boundaries of what we think television is capable of. Aside from the main cast returning as well as Lynch directing and co-writing every episode with Frost, the return of Twin Peaks brought back the iconic music from frequent Lynch collaborator Angelo Badalamenti. Death Walts Recording Company, the record label of the poster company Mondo, will be issuing the soundtrack to Twin Peaks: The Return on vinyl which will compliment Death Waltz’s previous two Twin Peaks editions. The two LP set will be available for order at MondoTees.com this Thursday, May 9th.
In a press release for the announcement of this new edition of Badalementi’s iconic score, head of Mondo’s music department Spencer Hickman said, “Twin Peaks was an absolute game changer when it hit screens in 1990, personally it is burned into my psyche as one of the greatest TV shows of all time, with easily the most iconic soundtrack that has ever graced my ears. When Season 3 was announced I was both terrified and beyond excited. Luckily the show turned out to be absolutely incredible and once again the music was a major player in helping audience connect characters with key themes throughout the season.”
Hickman also added, “Angelo Badalamenti returned to score the show with help from David Lynch and Johnny Jewell (The Chromatics) and the results are incredible, truly a score to get lost in and return to again and again. I am thrilled we get to return to this little town of Twin Peaks and put our own little twist on this incredible show.”
The two LP set will be available in Cherry Pie Splatter and Machine Room Grey. Anyone familiar with Mondo and Death Waltz’s track record knows that this set will be meticulously crafted and thoughtfully constructed for the most die-hard Twin Peaks fans. (A recent example of their excellence in their edition of John Carpenter‘s They Live Soundtrack.) Get yourself a slice of pie and a cup of coffee black as midnight on a moonless night and get ready because Twin Peaks is about to return on vinyl.
