Titans forges forward with episode three entitled Origins. Secret Origins might have been too much, since they aren’t so secret to those watching on the DC Universe app.
This week Starfire (Anna Diop) finds the strange cult featuring the

Nuclear Family (Melody Johnson, Jeni Ross and Logan Thompson) who have taken Raven (Teagan Croft) after they left Hawk (Alan Ritchson), Dove (Minka Kelly) and Robin (Brenton Thwaites) in a bloody heap.
The whole Nuclear Family is entirely creepy as a warped sense of Americana while being absolute savage villains willing to stop at nothing to keep Raven from fully developing her powers. It was a nice touch with the Brady Bunch’s Sunshine Days playing on the car stereo, sinking in just how deranged the family really is in their attempts to capture the half demon child.
We flashback to a young Dick Grayson (Tomaso Sanelli) who’s more 15 than the original 8-year-old orphan (later reconned to 12, which isn’t much better by today’s standards) learning of his parents murder and entering Wayne Manor for the first time. We never get to see who Bruce Wayne is, but we have heard Alfred’s voice a couple of times this season so far, which is great for developing their relationship between the two members of the Batman Family.
The series also leads us to how Raven was adopted by her murdered mother, Melissa (Sherilyn Fenn) from St. Paul’s. Rave and Starfire are the balance of light and dark within the comic series and hopefully this show. I did get a little excited seeing them cruise around in a 1970s Ford Torino.
Even the romantic tension between Gar Logan aka Beastboy (Ryan Potter) and Raven is played up well in the arcade by for the orphanage.
Titans continues to use a great soundtrack that has been revived in film and television thanks to their rivals at Marvel Entertainment, however, DC Entertainment is its own beast and once the Warner Bros. bean counters get out of the way of the creators, only then will the DCEU be as successful as DC Comics, DCTV and the DCAU.
Titans streams Fridays on the DC Universe App.
Summary
Titans remains a four out of five star show. It’s not perfect, but nothing ever is. I will keep on watching as The Outsid…er…Titans continue to capture my attention.
