Stephen King is an icon of horror that is unparalleled in his prolificacy and success. His many novels and short stories have been adapted in movies and television over the past 40 years, sometimes more than once. Only one time in his illustrious career did Stephen King step behind the camera and direct his own story, and that’s the 1983 cult classic Maximum Overdrive. Finally, after years of waiting, Maximum Overdrive lands on Blu-ray from the revived Vestron Video in a special edition teeming with supplemental content.
Emilio Estevez stars in King’s horror film about machines growing sentient and wreaking havoc. Though Maximum Overdrive has its fair share of detractors, the film is somewhat iconic for the lasting imagery of the haunting big rig with the visage of the Green Goblin on its grill. Alongside Estevez in this tale of man versus machine are Pat Hingle, Laura Harrington, and Christopher Murney.
Since its revival in 2016, Vestron Video has reissued a number of cult oddities on Blu-ray, including Chopping Mall, Blood Diner, The Class of 1999, and many, many more. Maximum Overdrive is just the latest title to join Vestron’s growing roster of cult classics making the transition to Blu-ray, and their special editions certainly don’t skimp on special features. This upcoming edition of Maximum Overdrive boasts an array of new features, including new audio commentaries, new interviews, and brand new featurettes on a horror icon’s lone film as a director. You can check out the full list of special features below.
Vestron Video will be revving up its engines and unleashing havoc on unsuspecting viewers when Maximum Overdrive kicks into gear on October 23, 2018.
