Ash and the Army of Darkness #8 opens with Ash’s neck on the line; literally. Ash prepares to be beheaded, as demon-possessed Sheila holds his head down for the executioner. With a few quick twists and jabs, Ash is free and Sheila sans a hand. With some quick thinking, Ash gets Sheila out of the dark forest and into the sunlight to handle the demon situation and work on getting his lovely lady home. After a few declarations of undying love, Ash decides to make Sheila his for life. Now, it’s just the long dangerous trek back to the castle standing in the way.
Steve Niles and Nacho Tenorio are a little sappier than normal in this one. If you’re a reader looking for moments of great suspense, you will likely be horrified to find a comic filled with romantic love. Still, it’s a far cry from Anne Rice and a much needed break for Ash. The art switches from demon creatures to a very attractive naked Sheila, so readers who look mostly for the T & A will likely only be mildly disappointed.
Issue #8 of Ash and the Army of Darkness is a bit of a kissy fest after an immediate demonic hand amputation. Now to see how Sheila and Ash do when they are both missing a hand.
Ash and the Army of Darkness #8 is available from Dynamite Comics June 18, 2014.
