A Galaxy Far, Far Away is Closer Than You Think – Scum & Villainy Cantina

GameStop, Inc.

There is nowhere else on the planet where you can enjoy Blue Milk and a conga line of Stormtroopers, other than the Scum & Villainy Cantina

On Monday night, I was lucky enough to be invited to experience a Star Wars inspired cantina pop up that is as close to being part of the cantina scene as you can get. To drive the point, as soon as I walked in, Greedo was sitting in a booth just waiting for me to shoot first. The Scum &Villainy Cantina is a Star Wars inspired cantina located in Hollywood, CA. This incredibly designed experience has been pretty much sold-out since it started its run two months ago. The Scum & Villainy Cantina and an intergalactic pop-up like no other.

Scum & Villainy Cantina

He was just waiting to be shot!

The pop-up is heavily influenced by the cantina from Star Wars, paying homage to the colorful beverages, unique architecture, and most of all, just the right amount of the Cantina Song. Everything from the bar furniture, to the drinks and dishes, just screams Star Wars! The bar has large canisters of glowing beverages that are house some of their specialty cocktails. There are three signature cocktails influenced by the franchise, Wretched Blue Milk, The Chosen One, and I’ve Got a Bad Feeling About This. Of the three, Wretched Blue Milk was my favorite. The drinks are served with glow sticks that look like lightsabers coming out of the drink. On top of the specialty cocktails, they have spaced themed beers, such as Space Dust IPA, that help complete the drink menu aesthetic. There’s also a themed food menu featuring Twin Sun Tacos, AT- TOTS, Cantina Quesadilla, and the Carbonite Queso. I had the Quesadilla and some tots, both were really good. I recommend the chicken over the ground beef, it seems to pack more flavor. But the creme de la creme are the Twin Sun Fish Tacos. The fish is beer battered so you get that nice crunch and moist flakiness with the bite, man my mouth is watering thinking about it. Scum & Villainy tickles your taste buds and your fandom.

The aesthetics, food, and spirits are absolutely amazing. From the moment you step in from the alleyway, it’s like walking into the movie. What really drives it home, is the crowd. Scum & Villainy Cantina creates the perfect atmosphere for Star Wars fans to have a lot of fun. It’s this perfect storm of uncensored fandom, themed drinks, themed costumes, and good vibes. None of the songs particularly stood out, aside from the Cantina Song, but it constantly got people to dance. Sporadic conga lines of Stormtroopers, lightsaber fist pumps, and general headbobbing occurred the whole time. You can nerd out over Star Wars, playfully rib the Trekkie who wore Command Yellow when we all know they should be wearing a red shirt, or just sit back and people watch.

The 501st Legion was a big presence Monday night, but I learned that wasn’t even a good size of the members in Los Angeles, let alone all the neighboring cities. So you’re likely to see different members cosplaying and having fun any night of the week. On top of the numerous celebrity Star Wars fans who might drop by. We had Phil Lamar, Jason O’Mara, Gren Grunberg, and quite a few others drop by. Star Wars fandom is widely spread, and there aren’t many places that are as great Scum & Villainy Cantina to really celebrate and enjoy that fandom outside of conventions.

Lucky for us, Scum & Villainy Cantina is extending their stay through June and tickets for June go on sale on the aptest of days, May the Fourth. So, for those who were worried about missing out on this once-in-a-lifetime experience, you can purchase tickets at http://scumandvillainycantina.eventbrite.com 10 am on May the Fourth. Plus, proprietor J.C. Reifenberg announced that those who purchase their reservations on May the Fourth will receive a $10 discount and only be paying $40! That $40 includes the price of admission, two drinks of the patron’s choice from the Cantina’s specialty menu, a souvenir pint glass, an exclusive Scum & Villainy challenge coin, and nightly surprises around each corner.

The Scum & Villainy Cantina has already transported thousands of fans into their immersive environment filled with food, drink, friends, and some questionable characters throughout the galaxy. The new ticket reservations are limited and will be handled on a first come first serve basis. Make sure to get your tickets on May the Fourth! You don’t want to miss out on the Scum & Villainy Cantina, especially if you’re a Star Wars fan. I think J.C. Reinberg describe it best, “Probably the coolest night of my life until I have a child.”
