Unity #10 takes the fight against the armor hunters in a new direction. It begins with Gin-gr’s story, told entirely in images and pictographs as Livewire communicates with the alien robot? ship? being who serves as the Armor Hunters’ headquarters.
Kindt is using the team-members’ abilities well; everyone is approaching the same problem in ways that suit their personality and skills. Ninjak, The Eternal Warrior, and Livewire all approach the problem from different angles. The ultimate cliffhanger is a clear consequence of actions here.
Segovia manages to convey emotion even in the largely expressionless, non-speaking robotic beings of Gin-gr’s race. There are also points where he zooms in to give a human face to the ongoing battle as when Ninjak interacts briefly with two children who have lost their parents to the Hunters’ Hounds. Backgrounds in this issue tend to rely on Milla’s coloring, giving one to two-color backdrops rather than scenery for most of the images which focus on the foreground action and expression.
This is a Valiant crossover which means you do not have to read all the books to kow what is going on. However, if you are reading both Unity and Armor Hunters, read Armor Hunters #3 first; it also brings up another way that the war could end without wipeout; kudos to the creators on this one! There is a solid summary of the story so far for new readers, so it would be possible to start the story here, but by this point the crossover is well underway, so there are definitely nuances a new reader would miss.
So far, the Armor Hunters, Unity, X-O Manowar crossover remains a strong one with truly powerful enemies and new information tnat promises ongoing repercussions on the Valiant Universe.
