Oooh a Disney animation about Planes: Fire & Rescue! With a theme about second chances in life, death defying aerial animation and talking vehicles this movie was sure to please all ages, or was it? The film follows the life of world renowned air racer Dusty who learns that his engine is damaged and unrepairable thus possibly ending his race career! He is then thrust into aerial firefighter flight training to save an outdated firefighting squad stationed within his hanger.
The animation was stunning and surely captivated the audience’s eye however the technological terminology and story plot was far too advanced for young viewers (ages 4-7). I noticed several children getting antsy in their seats during the first 45 minutes of the film. After Dusty’s extensive training the film takes a climatic turn as he joins forces with veteran fire rescue Blade Ranger & his team followed up with all-terrain vehicles; The Smoke Jumpers, to put out a massive fire!
The Blu-Ray includes a beautiful and funny short called, ” Vitaminamulch: Air Spectacular” that is a must watch. Check it out before going straight to the feature. There are several bonus features that will family in stitches, including the mockumentary “Welcome to Piston Peak!”
Better than the original, Planes: Fire & Rescue releases on Blu-Ray and DVD, Tuesday, November 4, 2014.
