There aren’t many filmmakers like Larry Cohen. For over 40 years, Larry Cohen has been churning out movies that defy simple categorization. He’s made films that traverse in the genres of horror, action, fantasy, and more but there’s always this oddball sensibility to his work that stands alone. Now the filmmaker behind just madcap classics as The Stuff, Black Caesar, and Q: The Winged Serpent is the subject of a documentary examining his lengthy and unusual career in King Cohen: The Wild World of Filmmaker Larry Cohen from writer-director Steve Mitchell.
For his documentary, Mitchell has assembled a wide variety of talent to discuss the life and career of Larry Cohen. Fellow directors Martin Scorsese, John Landis, J.J. Abrhams, and Joe Dante appear as do Cohen’s stars Yaphet Kotto and Fred “The Hammer” Williamson. Just in case that wasn’t enough, Mitchell was also able to round up Traci Lords and Eric Roberts.
