TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES IN TIME! Just that statement should make anyone excited about this comic. Everyone’s favorite mutant turtle ninjas are back—WAY back. In this episode, they have come face to face with their great-great-great-great-etc-grandfathers, the dinosaurs! However, they aren’t the only things out of place in this prehistoric setting. How will the boys deal with dinos and the Utroms on top of that?
This has been my first time reading any of the TMNT comics since IDW took up the reins. I liked the show as a kid, but it wasn’t my all-time favorite. It was more of a casual appreciation. So, I am hardly an expert on turtle lore or the history behind the story. Still, I find the classic, hand-drawn look of the current series, as imagined by Ross Campbell, to be rather enjoyable, more so than some of the lackluster CG versions that have come out in recent years. I also really love that he can transition the characters into rough action scenes so readily. Sometimes the art can make or break a comic book. This was a very well done homage to the 80’s classic cartoon and the new show. It has a good blend of both. I also like the time travel aspect. Despite never having read anything in from this story arc and/or universe, it was easy enough for me to pick up and understand what was going on right away. Altogether enjoyable; I look forward to the next comic.
