We all hate Mondays. It’s the start of the weekly grind, leaving us with 5 days to survive until the sweet, sweet sanctuary of the weekend. But this particular Monday we’ve been given a gift that should help us ease the pain of a new working week with the debut of the trailer for Jim Jarmusch‘s latest film The Dead Don’t Die. The relaxed cool style of Jim Jarmusch will now enter the world of the undead as The Dead Don’t Die is Jarmusch’s latest foray into the terrors of the supernatural after the spectacular vampire movie The Only Lovers Left Alive. But as he proved with his vampire film, Jim Jarmusch isn’t going to make a film driven by genre tropes.
As the poster claims, The Dead Don’t Die features “the greatest cast ever disassembled,” which is a pretty amazing tagline. It’s also factually accurate, as Jarmusch once again has corralled an all-star cast to battle and fall victims to the zombie plague. The Dead Don’t Die features Bill Murray, Adam Driver, Tilda Swinton, Chloë Sevigny, Steve Buscemi, Danny Glover, Caleb Landry Jones, Rosie Perez, Iggy Pop, Sara Driver, RZA, Selena Gomez, Carol Kane, Austin Butler, Luka Sabbat, and Tom Waits. That’s an impressive list of talent.
Of course, The Dead Don’t Die won’t be the kind of nihilistic exercise in horror like The Walking Dead. In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s a scene in the film where everyone enjoys a nice cup of a coffee and a cigarette while listening to some old Stax records as a horde of zombies claw at the windows. Jim Jarmusch is a king of cool in the American cinema, and the zombie genre is going to get a really cool shake up when Focus Features releases The Dead Don’t Die into theaters on June 14, 2019.
