Do you remember The Bourne Legacy? You know, the attempt to reboot the Bourne series with Jeremy Renner stepping into a similar role of Matt Damon‘s Jason Bourne? Well, if you don’t remember, I can’t really blame you, as most of the details of that misguided continuation have been lost to time. Just a mere four years after The Bourne Legacy was unable to continue the series without Damon and director Paul Greengrass, the team behind the most memorable Bourne films are back with Jason Bourne.
The first trailer for Jason Bourne teases a tale that is reminiscent of prior installments, with Damon’s Jason Bourne being a man on the run in the deadly and violent world of espionage. Also returning from prior films is Julia Stiles, and she’s joined by newcomers to the world of Bourne with Alicia Vikander, Tommy Lee Jones, and Vincent Cassel all taking on roles in this latest chapter.
Action fans will be foaming at the mouth for Damon to return to his iconic role, and the frenzied, shaky cam action direction of Paul Greengrass. Those bone-crushing dreams of Bourne’s glory days will come to fruition when Jason Bourne hits theaters on July 29th.
The official synopsis for Jason Bourne:
Matt Damon returns to his most iconic role in Jason Bourne. Paul Greengrass, the director of The Bourne Supremacy and The Bourne Ultimatum, once again joins Damon for the next chapter of Universal Pictures’ Bourne franchise, which finds the CIA’s most lethal former operative drawn out of the shadows.
For Jason Bourne, Damon is joined by Alicia Vikander, Vincent Cassel and Tommy Lee Jones, while Julia Stiles reprises her role in the series. Frank Marshall again produces alongside Jeffrey Weiner for Captivate Entertainment, and Greengrass, Damon, Gregory Goodman and Ben Smith also produce. Based on characters created by Robert Ludlum, the film is written by Greengrass and Christopher Rouse.
