On June 16, 2012, famed artist Jim Mahfood (Spider-Man, Clerks, Grrl Scouts) will be releasing LA Ink Stains a collection of autobiographical comics from his blog Food One for the past three years. LA Ink Stains chronicles his life in the Los Angeles art scene, his “amazingly strange” friends, the night life and his travels.
“I really love the LA art scene, it’s the most diverse. There are so many more people here doing creative things. There are less rules here and a mixing of the stuff. Each scene just blends into each other, which I like,” said Mahfood.
In conjunction with the book’s release, which will included 20 extra comic strips and another 20 pages of photos following his adventures, Mahfood will be hosting a prom at Titmouse Animation Studios in Hollywood, CA.
“They (Titmouse) have great parties and decided to have a party for Ink Stains, it’s about LA, so why not have the book release party as a high school prom and sign it like a year book. A lot of people are sort of weirded out that we are doing a prom for our book signing, but I said, ‘let’s not just do it at a bookstore, let’s get dressed up and have a dance party for it,’” justified Mahfood.
Starting this venture in 2009, and wanted to give something away for free on his blog, Mahfood developed a large following receiving feedback where people asked his work in book form.
“It wasn’t something I ever thought about, it was something I was just giving away on my blog. The book is way more than just the web comics, it’s celebrating life,” affirmed Mahfood.
The festivities will begin at 7:00 p.m and packages begin at $15, which include admission, free booze and a prom picture.
