It’s been six years since writer-director Harmony Korine took us to the beach with the neon-infused insanity of Spring Breakers, one of the best films of the decade and one of the most divisive films as well. Harmony Korine is ready to take us back to the seaside with a new neon-drenched journey into the heart of American excess with The Beach Bum, and the red band trailer for Korine’s latest provocation shows why it’s one of my most anticipated movies of 2019.
Matthew McConaughey stars a Moondog, a beach bum burnout living on the shores of paradise. He’s a ne’er-do-well living a life of chemical excess and surrounded by a cast of colorful characters. This red band trailer for The Beach Bum gives us a feel for McConaughey’s character and his shaggy lifestyle along the sand. However, it does seem like the trailer is playing close to the vest in regards to the film’s story, only giving us an idea that McConaughey’s Moondog has aspirations of being a writer and that there are some shady, drug-loving characters in his world. Co-starring with McConaughey in The Beach Bum are Snoop Dogg, Zac Efron, Isla Fisher, Jimmy Buffett, Martin Lawrence, and Jonah Hill.
Neon Rated will unleash The Beach Bum on an unsuspecting public on March 29, 2019. Just in time for Spring Break. Sprang Breaaaak. Spring Break forever.
The official synopsis for The Beach Bum:

Co-starring Snoop Dog, Zac Efron, and Isla Fisher, THE BEACH BUM is a refreshingly original and subversive new comedy from director Harmony Korine (Kids, Spring Breakers).
