As the World Cup continues in his homeland, Brazil’s Marcus Vinicius (7-2-0, 2 KO) throws down with California born Shane Oblonsky (8-2-0) in the second fight of the Glory Featherweight Semi-Final Tournament.
Oblonsky turned to boxing after a social working introduced him to the sport, “I was in trouble at school and she suggested that boxing might be a way to get my energy out,” he said.
The bell sounds and the Brazilian comes out swinging, but Oblonsky answers with two knees to the body and a combination to the head as a “U-S-A, U-S-A,” chant is started by the crowd, leading to Vinicius being knocked down and receiving a standing 8-count in the first round. But the Brazilian comes back from the knock down and lands several devastating right hands to the head and body.
This is far more of a slug-fest than the previous bout, but the crowd has woken up!
The combatants start off slow, a little more cautious than they were in the first round, but none-the-less still just as aggressive. Vinicius is still upset about an accidental rabbit punch that closed out the first round.
“Let’s go Shane, let’s go!” chant is coming from the far side of The Fabulous Forum as the bell tolls taking the fighters into the third and final round.
Vinicius is far more agitated this round as Oblonsky ended the second round with another late blow similar to the first. This fight can go either way and as the clock ticks away and with Vinicius being knocked down twice in this round we have reached our second decision of the night.
The winner of this bout and who will face Gabriel Varga in an all North American tournament final is Shane Oblonsky!
