Opening in theaters on Friday, May 25th, Fury of the Fist and The Golden Fleece is the martial arts action comedy you need in your life!
Co-written and starring Sean Stone as Fist, this grind house style flick features some of martial arts cinema’s most recognizable figures of the 1980s and 90s, including Cynthia Rothrock, Don Frye, Don “The Dragon” Wilson, Bill Goldberg, Michael Dudikoff and Ernie Reyes Jr. The film also features Danny Trejo and Bianca Brigitte Van Damme, daughter of legendary action star, Jean-Claude Van Damme.
Set in the 1980s, the movie makes light of selling crack, the Illuminati running everything, the Chinese eventually taking over America and other various conspiracy theories along with GMOs and the over abundance of estrogen placed in our foods…which is where Superboss (Dudikoff) comes into play as part of his criminal activity.
“We hit you over the head with our kung-fu kicking style instead. But the truth is that, I think a lot of my dialogue is to be understated. So it’s almost in a way like the old way of writing dialogue where you have to listen to it, and it kind of fits into your head. Making the viewers things, ‘Well, what does that mean?’ before going, ‘Oh, that’s actually really funny.’ It doesn’t necessarily get you when you first hear it, and I think that’s the way Fury of the Fist is,” said Stone discussing how comedies have become overt in their writing styles versus the humor in Fury of the Fist.
Co-writer and director Alexander Wraith along with Stone, allow us to finally have a laugh at the absurd in these politically decisive times.
“We wrote the script and pulled together a lot of guys who are iconic made something what we felt was like an homage to the 70s. Movies that Alex and I grew up watching. The other day we were like, ‘Look, we’re not going to get millions of dollars to do high concept movies.’ What’s in vogue is superhero stuff, so let’s just do our own thing and make it fun and funny,” said Stone about Fury of the Fist.
What sets Fury of the Fist: The Golden Fleece apart from most retro style movies is that this wasn’t a production just to throw in 70s and 80s pop culture references as visual gags. This was intended to be shot in the same style and manner as those films were earnestly made 40 to 50 years ago. And let’s be honest, only Stone and Wraith would not only be able to inspire a fight scene in a car wash, but also convince Goldberg to allow Frye to simulate sodomy and still make it hilarious.
“Don (Frye) and Goldberg our old buddies. I don’t think people realize how funny Bill (Goldberg) and Don (Frye) are. Don was a last minute casting decision because we had originally written it for Roddy Piper, who passed away the month before we started shooting. He was such a sweet guy and so down to earth, so we kind of modeled that character on his, ‘They Live’ character. That was the mentality of the guy and then passed and we were of possibly Alex Jones but he was too busy. Don’s got that blue collar look to him and we kind of turned him into a Trump supporter. It’s awesome, like the timing is perfect!” said Stone.
Fury of the Fist and The Golden Fleece is a cult classic waiting to happen. This one needs to be part of every double feature midnight showing with either The Rocky Horror Picture Show or the original Point Break! Catch it May 25, 2018 in theaters or on VOD.
