When J.K. Rowling wrote Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, little did she know the phenomenon it would later become. With over 400 million copies of the now seven Harry Potter books out there in the wild, I’d say phenomenon is putting it lightly. Fans of the world she created devour anything Harry Potter related, so when Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them was published fans went undeniably crazy for it, finally getting their own copy of Newt Scamander’s guidebook from the very pages of the first book in the franchise.
Then it was announced, not very shockingly, that the book would be heading to the silver screen, and fans rejoiced. Though it may not be Harry and his friends up there, Fantastic Beasts still takes place in the Wizarding World, though this time in the Big Apple. Magizoologist Newt Scamander tracks down magical beasts in the New York of the 1920s in this just released trailer for the film adaptation. Fantastic Beasts stars Eddie Redmayne, Katherine Waterston, Alison Sudol, Dan Fogler, Samantha Morton, Ezra Miller, Colin Farrell, Faith Wood-Blagrove, Jenn Murray, Jon Voight, and Ron Perlman, and is directed by David Yates from a script by Rowling herself.
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is in theaters November 2016.
