After Rise of the Tomb Raider, Lara Croft’s adventure continues in this new comic series. Lara Croft is pursuing a lost truth about the world that just might unlock the secret to defeating death! She becomes entangled in a search for a rare mushroom said to grant immortality and a lethal new enemy that just won’t die!

Tomb Raider #1 begins with a fun flash-forward sequence full of action and color. The opening sequence introduces us to the Laura Croft we’ve grown to love while playing as her in the Tomb Raider video games.

Its different seeing Laura spending most of the time in the city, while we are used to her being stranded out on an island, or in a deep green jungle battling wild animals and hunting for treasure. We get to see her in regular civilian clothes which seems fitting. Included is also a sequence where she spars and trains in a ring. Not only that, but blindfolds herself and seems to train while blind, or having zero visibility.

We are left with the first issue ending with Laura in the city ready to take on bad guys – Unarmed and without all of her gear. The cliffhanger leaves us waiting to see what happens in the next issue and where her fighting training takes her.

Cornered by demons and assassins, mercenaries Tessa and Marius are fighting for their lives. While searching for a safe haven, they rescue a village from demons, garnering the attention of the only organization trying to save the world—the Inquisition!

Magekiller #3 takes place several months after issue #2 ended. The main characters have ran far from the mage Archon Radonis and Assassins have been on their trail. Since it looks like the world is ending, Tessa and Marius are doing what they can to stay alive.

This issue goes at a much faster pace than the previous two issues have. It seems most of our exposition has been set up already to get to the meat of the story that we have been waiting on . Not all of the background on Marius has been revealed yet, but they are working on that. We got much more back story on Tessa at the beginning

The different landscapes they run into in this story are portrayed well by the Art team. As well as wonderful colors for all the different monsters and demons and all their magical powers. It goes great with the action scenes that are in this book

Dr. Zomboss unleashes a horde of mobile, fast-moving zombies on the innocent citizens of Neighborville! Riding inventive hot rods and crazy contraptions, both zombie and plant forces alike pull out all the creative stops in a series of contests to win control over the city! A competitive, race-filled finale as our Petal to the Metal story arc closes!

Plants Vs. Zombies #9 reaches its conclusion of the 3 part Petal to the Metal story. The story begins and makes you think of those internet memes you see “You are in a Zombie Apocalypse, grab the first item to your right, that is your weapon,” type of things. We get a fun backyard picnic invaded by zombies, which turns into a big pie fight before the big monsters arrive.

The races begin again and different ones continue thru the rest of the book. Not just the big race, but Segway, Dog race, Video game race, and more! It seems they threw in a few easter eggs for other racing games for enjoyment.

The story is still very colorful and bright. It really captures your eyes attention if you are reading it on a digital device. Gives it that fun cartoon feel. The humans and zombies race thru Neighborville again in some pretty fun designed vehicles. I wouldn’t be surprised if someone at Diamond saw these, and started to make a line of vehicles based on this story.

Petal to the Metal was a fun story with a very large ensemble cast that would be enjoyed by all ages, and people that have never played the game before.
