Catalina Comedy Island Founders Ben Villalobos & Tony Riccio Discuss the Festival, September 9 & 10 in Avalon, CA featuring comedians Michelle Wolf, Dave Attell, Jeff Ross and Dana Carvey & Sons.
Comedy is the last bastion of free speech and comedians are able to get away with things most people are not allowed to say in polite company.
Spread out over two nights, Catalina Comedy Island founders Ben Villalobos & Tony Riccio found a way to bring comedy to Catalina at the Casino in Avalon, CA, just over 30 miles from Long Beach, CA.
Villalobos and Riccio are quite familiar with Catalina Island as Villalobos is the founder of the Catalina Wine Mixer in 2015 (yes, based on the then fictional event in the comedy feature film, Step Brothers) and is the president of Guardian Touring Inc.
This being year one for Catalina Comedy Island, Villalobos and Riccio have decided to keep it to a weekend event where each not will have two shows, a 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. On Friday night, September 9, 2022, the comedy stylings of Michelle Wolf, Dave Attell and Jeff Ross will take center stage at the Casino, followed by Saturday’s performance also being 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. will host Dana Carvey & Sons.
Villalobos and Riccio spoke with FanboyNation about the hope for growth in the coming years of expanding it to a possible week long festival, several smaller venues being used for up and coming comics and possibly recording live podcasts or having roast battles during the event.
Villalobos and Riccio also spoke about their comedic influences, why Catalina Island was the ideal place to host Catalina Comedy Island and what we can expect on those two nights just off the coast of Long Beach.
