Many people are thinking about going out this Halloween to various parties, indulging in alcohol, and purveying the variations of “Slutty _____” costumes that roam around in the evening. That’s good and all for them. For me, I’m gonna be hunkered down with a chainsaw and a boomstick, ready for the Necronomicon to unleash the latest wave of dastardly Deadites, as the highly anticipated series Ash vs. Evil Dead will make it debut on Starz at 9PM.
Like many a gorehound, I’ve been waiting decades for Bruce Campbell and Sam Raimi to give us more of the incompetent heroism of Ash as he battles the forces of the undead. The influential series of horror films which concluded with Army of Darkness in 1993, and the recent remake didn’t exactly win over all the fans of the original. But Ash vs. Evil Dead looks to continue the tradition of horror and Three Stooges-styled comedy that Raimi brought to the series with the legendary Evil Dead 2: Dead by Dawn. While Bruce Campbell will be strapping on the chainsaw for the first time in decades, he’ll be given a bit of help from the newcomers to the world of the Deadites with Ray Santiago and Dana DeLorenzo joining him in the fight. But hot on his trail is Ruby, played by Lucy Lawless, who has the crazy (though not necessarily wrong) idea that Ash just might be responsible for the strange happenings.
