I’ve heard it said by many, myself included, that if Marvel does ever have a flop, or a movie that underperforms, Ant-Man will likely be that movie. Don’t get me wrong, many said the same about Guardians of the Galaxy, and we know how well that one did. I think many just don’t understand Ant-Man’s part in the greater Marvel Cinematic Universe. From the trailers and clips released it looks like a very stand-alone film, something that no Marvel movie has really been since the first Iron Man.
Marvel wants us all to know that Ant-Man may be a stand-alone film, but it still definitely has a place in the MCU, so they’ve created a couple “news clips” starring reporter Christine Everhart, who you might remember from the Iron Man films. The first clip is something of a teaser setting up the next one.
This next one ties Ant-Man squarely with the rest of the MCU by first talking about the Avengers’ battle in Sokovia before briefly discussing Scott Lang and mentioning his prison release date, which just happens to coincide with Ant-Man’s theatrical release date. These are just the first of many that can be expected in the next few weeks.
Ant-Man hits theaters on July 17th.
