It’s the dream of many to sail the open seas as a means to explore the unseen aspects of the world. Based on a true story, the couple at the heart of Adrift, Tami (Shailene Woodley) and Richard (Sam Claflin), living that dream becomes a nightmare when they’re sailboat finds its way into a powerful storm that damages their vessel and wounds Richard, leaving Tami with the unenviable task of repairing the ship while tending to her wounded lover. Now the trailer for Adrift washes upon the shores of the internet with all of its heart-pounding action condensed into two minutes of high seas terror.
Adrift is directed by Baltasar Kormákur, best known for his work on Everest and 2 Guns, and is scripted by Aaron Kandell, Jordan Kandell, and David Branson (adapting the book Red Sky in Mourning: A True Story of Love, Loss, and Survival at Sea by Tami Oldham Ashcraft with Susea McGearhart. As evidenced by his work on Everest, Kormákur is more than capable of striking the balance between the emotional, character-driven aspects of the story with the eye-popping thrills of a disastrous adventure.
Be sure to bring your life jacket to the theater with you when STX Entertainment releases Adrift into theaters on June 1, 2018.

Starring Shailene Woodley (Fault in Our Stars, Divergent films) and Sam Claflin (Me Before You, The Hunger Games films), ADRIFT is based on the inspiring true story of two free spirits whose chance encounter leads them first to love, and then to the adventure of a lifetime. As the two avid sailors set out on a journey across the ocean, Tami Oldham (Woodley) and Richard Sharp (Claflin) couldn’t anticipate they would be sailing directly into one of the most catastrophic hurricanes in recorded history. In the aftermath of the storm, Tami awakens to find Richard badly injured and their boat in ruins. With no hope for rescue, Tami must find the strength and determination to save herself and the only man she has ever loved.
