It is difficult when you reach back into the comic book code era to make characters like Abra Kadabra seem like a real threat in the Rebirth world, but somehow Dan Abnett made it work. Omen had reached into Wally West’s mind as she tried to figure out what happened to him in the Speed Force, unfortunately, she unlocked a part of the past that made Abra Kadabra realize who he really was and his intense hatred not only for West but the other Titans as well.
Now, the Titans face off against versions of their previous identities as the Teen Titans as Abra Kadabra manages to pull the strings. All the while, Linda Park is trying to figure out how West knows her and why she is so drawn to him.
You can tell that Abnett is having fun with these characters and some of their more ridiculous villains. Titans reads like a 1960s comic without talking down to the audience and Booth’s pencils with Norm Rapmund’s inks and Dalhouse and Strachan’s colors make it feel like you aren’t reading a comic book, but watching an animated series.
Titans leans of the edge of campy without crossing the line. It is a fun, fast paced action story with a lot of humor, heart and suspense. We have our Titans back and with this creative team, hopefully it won’t deviate from the superheroes we have grown to love.

The Verdict
Dan Abnett, Brett Booth, Norm Rapmund, Andrew Dalhouse and Carrie Strachan are the Justice League of creative teams and Titans shows that when you have the right synergy a story that would have been perfect in the 1960s works magically well in the 2010s.
