Shot with IMAX 3D cameras, Island of Lemurs: Madagascar is a beautiful documentary that takes audiences on an amazing adventure about the history and lives of lemurs. Lemurs can only be found on the island of Madagascar; they are the oldest living primates predating monkeys and apes and have inhabited the island for over 60 million years. As of today there are nearly 100 species of lemurs ranging in sizes from small mouse sized creatures and at one point giant ape sized ones. Unfortunately due to habitat loss and illegal hunting, these majestic creatures are becoming endangered and 90% of all species of lemur face extinction in the next few decades.
Island of Lemurs: Madagascar is truly an IMAX experience. The rich and vivid environment is brought to life through masterful cinematography and the always captivating IMAX camera technology. The lemurs are cute little animals that capture your attention through their surprisingly human behavior, wide eyes, and fluffiness. The entire experience is very soothing as none other than Academy Award Winner Morgan Freeman narrates the film. The 3D is also very impressive; combined with the IMAX screen and sound, the 3D experience engulfs audiences and fully immerses them into the scenes. Island of Lemurs: Madagascar is full of breathtaking visuals, hauntingly clear and crisp sound, and plenty of “aww” moments for audience members of all ages. Island of Lemurs: Madagascar is a thoroughly enjoyable and enriching experience that brings light to a cause without needlessly playing on heart strings.
Although a bit short, with a run time of 39 minutes, Island of Lemurs: Madagascar is a beautiful film that makes full use of the IMAX and 3D technology to tell the story and situation of a unique and loveable creature. It is a film for the family that everyone can enjoy.
Island of Lemurs: Madagascar opens in select IMAX® and IMAX® 3D theatres starting April 4, 2014.
