Writer and Producer, Rob Yescombe hit the ‘Jackpot!‘ with his new action comedy starring John Cena and Awkwafina out today on Prime Video.
Rob Yescombe and I are reconnected after a decade, a long pause since our last exchange following his short film, ‘A Gun‘. Yescombe has since made significant strides in the industry, and it’s a pleasure to catch up on his journey. His latest venture, ‘Jackpot!‘, is set 
to premiere today on August 15, 2024, and is an absolute standout addition to his impressive portfolio. This action/comedy feature, starring John Cena, Awkwafina, and Simu Liu, and directed by the renowned Paul Feig, is set in a wonderfully comedic dystopian 2030. In this world, anyone can claim the Grand California Lottery jackpot by killing the winner before sundown on the day it’s announced. Amidst the chaos and hilarity, ‘Jackpot!‘ offers a biting social commentary on contemporary issues, particularly the extremes to which greed can drive people.
Yescombe’s remarkable talent hasn’t gone unnoticed. Last year, he was named one of Variety’s Screenwriters to Watch, a testament to his evolving prowess in storytelling. His career spans various mediums, including high-profile video games such as ‘Star Wars‘, ‘Blade Runner‘, and ‘The Twilight Zone.’ He has also lent his expertise as an action consultant for Universal’s ‘Fast X‘. Yescombe’s knack for blending adventurous narratives with sharp, engaging dialogue has firmly established him in the cinematic landscape.
His previous feature, ‘Outside the Wire‘ (2021), starring Anthony Mackie and Damson Idris, was a hit on Netflix, dominating the platform with 66 million views in its first week.
