September 26, 2016 – Los Angeles, CA – Women of Wrestling (WOW) filmed part of their fourth season from the Belasco Theater in front of a standing room only crowd. Founder David McLane along with Lakers’ part-owner and president, Jeanie Buss relaunching the brand in 2013 after its original incarnation stopped production following the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Now WOW is back giving wrestling fans another option in women’s wrestling.
Also in attendance tonight were some of the original Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling (GLOW) the company McLane founded in 1986 and the predicessor to WOW. Now, Daisy, Matilda the Hun, Sunny the California Girl and Roxy Astor pass the torch to a new generation of female wrestlers dubbed the WOW Superheroes.
Sadly, WOW’s original referee Josh Milton resently passed away, as tonight’s tapings were filmed in his honor, displaying the utmost respect for everything Milton had done for the promotion.
After first appearing on WOW 15 years ago, Jungle Grrrl reached her dream by obtaining the WOW World Championship. Now, the original belt is retired and after her title defense against “All Natural” Khloe Hurtz, the winner will receive the new WOW title.
The undercard featured “The Governor’s Daughter” Abilene Maverickas she faced fan favorite, Stephy Slays in a 15-minute-time limit bout, while the All American Girls, who were stripped of the tag team titles were forced to take on Caged Heat in a tag team tournament match to see who would continue on to gain the titles. The blade loving Dagger made her WOW in-ring debute against the freaky jester, Holidead. Also on the card were Keta Rush, Lana Star, Selena Jones, Jesse Jones, Riot, Spike and Razor.
WOW has been able to capture the hearts of those who longed for a wrestling product that the whole family could enjoy. It’s more edgy than its predicessor GLOW, but for the 21st Century, this is exactly the style of wrestling that has been missing from our television sets and live streaming feeds.
WOW’s next show will be on October 13, 2016 at the Seaport Inn, in Long Beach, CA. Catch them life if you can.
