Hugh Jackman has been very vocal about the fact he has one left star turn as Wolverine in James Mangold’s upcoming sequel. Until now that’s been the only news, but the Wrap is reporting that the Green Lantern and upcoming Blade Runner 2 screenwriter, Michael Green, has been tapped to write a script treatment for the film.
Green, who began his career in television on shows such as Smallville and Heroes, doesn’t really have much to his credit that inspires confidence in this writer. While much of the film and TV work he has done has its fans, it is a vocal minority in the comic community. Green Lantern was an unmitigated disaster, and flopped at the box office, though hopefully that was down to too many cooks in the kitchen and not just Green’s script.
The as yet unnamed Wolverine sequel is just one of 20th Century Fox’s upcoming films based on Marvel characters, along with the now filming Deadpool, the to begin filming at the end of April X-Men: Apocalypse, and the as yet unwritten Gambit. Hopefully Jackman can bow out on a high note, as his portrayal of the Canadian X-Man has been much better than the scripts he’s been given in the past.
“Wolverine 2” is set to hit theaters on March 3rd, 2017.
