As much as fans love to complain about reboots and remakes, it’s impossible to argue that revived version of Planet of the Apes has been anything less than phenomenal. Starting with Rupert Wyatt‘s Rise of the Planet of the Apes followed by Matt Reeve‘s Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, this rejuvenated franchise has delivered thrilling tales that continue the series’ tradition of technological revolutions and intelligent social commentary. Now it’s time for the third chapter in the saga with War for the Planet of the Apes, which sees Reeves returning to helm this latest installment.
Also returning as Caesar is Andy Serkis, whose motion capture work in this series has been nothing short of amazing. This time, Caesar faces a new militarized threat of humans led by Woody Harrelson‘s Colonel, who has some serious Colonel Kurtz vibes in this latest trailer. There’s only one minor gripe in this latest trailer for War, and that’s the fact that it doesn’t feature this classic song from the garage band The Mummies. Other than that, I’m entirely on board with this latest entry in the Apes saga.
Before taking on The Batman, Matt Reeves looks to be expanding and exploding this new world within the Apes series. It’s going to be a brutal battle between man and ape when War for the Planet of the Apes hits theaters on July 14th, 2017.
