Wandavision exceeds any expectations previously set by the Marvel Cinematic Universe thanks to the chemistry between Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany and its quirky transition to television.

I truly had no idea how I was going to about Wandavision. I’ve been wrong so many times when it comes to casting like Chris “Human Torch” Evans as Captain America and Heath Ledger as The Joker in The Dark Knight, that I tapped out on fantasy casting.

So, when Wandavision was announced and realizing that it is a lighthearted spin on the House of M comic series from 2005, I thought, How on Earth is that going to working?

Well, somehow, Wandavision does work, in an ultra-weird sitcom through the ages sort of way.

” I don’t know. I think it was like an amalgamation of, um, uh, Mary Tyler Moore and Elizabeth Montgomery, and I think I accidentally threw in some Lucy in the 70s just because there was so much physical comedy,” said Olsen about her experience in filming the first episode in front of a live-studio audience.

What’s most intriguing about the series is that unlike Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., I actually cared how the story tied into the MCU instead of seeing it as a holding place until the next Marvel movie hit theaters. Even Kathryn Hahn’s character, who is the obnoxious busy-body neighbor somehow made sense in Wandavision.

Bettany, who has been the most versatile actor in the entire MCU before eventually taking on the form of the Vision said, “Yeah, I was worried about that initially. I was like, ‘Wow, this feels so different,’ as I read the script and how do I keep him the same? And then I realized he’s always been becoming something else, you know. He’s Jarvis, he’s part Ultron, he’s part Tony Stark, and he’s omnipotent but he’s also this sort of naïve ingenue. Then I realized, well, I’ll just throw a little bit of Dick Van Dyke in there and a little bit of Hugh Laurie and maybe a…little smidges, you know. So, um, as long as he remains, uh…I think what Vision is is just decent and honorable and-and exists for Wanda, and, uh, uh, and then you’re safe.”

This is definitely going to be one of those shows I decide to watch more than once to fully get what’s going on and that’s a good thing.

Wandavision begins streaming on Wednesday, January 15, 2021 on Disney+

Summary

In a kind of, What the Hell did I just watch? sort of way, Wandavision is quirky cute and I liked it. Who would have thought House of M could have had a humorous slant?
