Vaxxed Challenges the MMR Vaccination

GameStop, Inc.

First and foremost Vaxxed: From Cover-Up to Catstrophe is a documentary that does not challenge all vaccinations. The subject matter is polarizing. One side believes the other are conspiracy theorist, flat earth believing,  mouth breathers who treat Jenny McCarthy as a goddess. The other side sees those who take everything that doctors say as gospel because science is never wrong and cannot think critically for themselves.

Vaxxed asks the questions, “Does the Measles, Mumps, and Rubella (MMR) one shot cause autism and if so, why have we not returned to the three separate vaccines for these diseases?”

The documentary mentions Trivirix, an MMR vaccine created in Canada in 1987, which caused meningitis, but instead of destroying the vaccine banned in Ontario was rebranded as Pluserix and distributed in the UK for four and once again the meningitis outbreak happened over there, they had it redistributed to Brazil. Scientists researched that the younger they were to receive this vaccine had a higher risk of meningitis. Dr. Andrew Wakefield asks if there were parallels in age, autism and the current MMR vaccine that occur in the same manner with the meningitis study.

“We know through many, many studies that vaccines do not cause autism, but the problem I have always had with that is that thousands and thousands of parents all telling the same story. ‘My child got a vaccine,’ usually the MMR vaccine. Then that night or the next day broke out in a fever and then when they came out of that fever, the lost speech or lost the ability to walk. Basically, regressed in what we know is autism and never came back. Doctors used to be told, ‘Listen to your patients,’ that is the corner stone of medicine as we know it. Something has changed recently in that the patient doesn’t know what they are talking about and these parents with their stories of these children have been written off as though they have no idea what’s going on with their child,” said Del Bigtree, a medical journalist and father of two who is seeking the disconnect between science, parenting and the healthcare.

Dr. William Thompson of the Center for Disease Control (CDC) went on record via phone conversations discussing the dangers of the the MMR vaccine saying, they (presumably the CDC) didn’t want people to know that this data exists and allowed Thompson to distribute the information via a citizens request, releasing this information to the public, one-by-one.

One parent in particular, Sheila Ealey, an African-American mother, shares the story of fraternal twins. Her son was vaccinated when her back was turned to calm her daughter down and in a huff, she left the clinic, not allowing her daughter to receive the vaccination. After the MMR shot, her son’s behavior changed once his fever broke and he was diagnosed as autistic. His sister, plays piano, speaks three languages and is an honor student.

Dr. Wakefield informs the viewers that there is a much higher risk for African-American boys to be being diagnosed with autism and that autism is four times more common in boys than in girls. As for Ealey to see that in her own home and it matching the risk for African-Americans, should be compelling enough to extend the greater research.

Dr. Brian Hooker had a conversation with Dr. Thompson about the studies and the higher numbers of African-American boys with autism and the correlation with race. Dr. Thompson confirms race was being downplayed, whether to hide the numbers because of political correctness or dismiss these factors as a whole is unclear.

The CDC requires the MMR vaccine to be distributed to children in the U.S. between the ages of 12-and-18 months, but according to the “hidden data” that Bigtree shares, which was found by Dr. Thompson, it is clear that for African-Americans this is the most dangerous time to distribute the MMR.

Whether you believe the MMR vaccine causes autism or it is just mass hysteria, the questions remains, “How has the number of cases in autism gone from 1 in 10,000 from the early 1980s to 1 in 50 in the 2000s?” and “Why were the the numbers changed to fit the data the CDC research in order to push the MMR vaccine?”

I do not have children, so I do not have to make the decision on whether or not to vaccinate my child(ren) with the MMR vaccine, but for those who are hesitant, Vaxxed will at the very least force you to ask your pediatrician these questions. For those who think that the MMR vaccine is perfectly safe, they can at least watch this and open a dialogue with those who are against this particular vaccination, discovering why they disagree.

Vaxxed: From Cover-Up to Catstrophe is out today on DVD and well worth your time to at least watch once.

The Verdict

Vaxxed: From Cover-Up to Catstrophe is an intelligent and well presented documentary that at the very least, will open up dialogue regarding the MMR vaccine and if it is dangerous.
