It’s official from Valve, the 2012 DOTA 2 Championship will be held in Seattle, Washington from August 31st thru September 2nd. This will be the second year of the tournament, which looks to be another lucrative event as the previous year gave away over $1 million in prizes. The tournament takes 16 invited international teams to compete in a tournament to claim supremacy. Similar to the Van Damme classic, ‘Bloodsport’ this Kumate style of picking teams has already confirmed that team ‘Na’Vi’ from the Ukrain and team ‘DK’ from China have been selected. One can only hope that there will be a Team USA to root for.
DOTA 2 has been in beta for the past year even during the first International tournament. According to Valve’s software Steam which runs DOTA 2 shows that DOTA 2 even in beta is played more than Skyrim and Counter Strike, which goes to show that this gem of a game will be Valve’s work horse for the next decade when it is released. Along with the success of the international tournaments this will be a mainstream tournament game with broadcast potential. As of now Valve has confirmed that the International tournament will be broadcast live for free steaming. For more information on DOTA go to www.dota2.com.
