University of MMA 9 Hits Club Nokia in LA

U of MMA 9 02March 8, 2015 – University of MMA, the Southern California amateur MMA promotion that presents tomorrows stars and champions took place at Club Nokia at LA Live in Los Angeles, CA.

Here are tonight’s fight results:

Lightweight (155 lbs) Victor Rivera (Debut) vs. Ernesto Leyva (Debut)

Both fighters are making their debut tonight and are focused on leaving tonight with a victory. Leyva is going for the knock out as this has been a kickboxing fight thus far. Round one comes to an end with Rivera landing a spinning back kick.

Round two and it’s now Rivera on the offensive landing a huge overhand Leyva answers with a right knee to the body, but his breathing is getting difficult as his nose is bloodied. Even with a bloody nose and a lost mouthpiece Leyva stays on the attack with a thundering right cross.

Third and final round, the fighters touch gloves and Leyva begins with leg kicks, which is answered to kick to the face by Rivera forcing Leyva to clinch and wrestle Rivera to the ground. Leyva is in Rivera’s closed guard and landing punches on Rivera.

Your winner by unanimous decision out of the blue corner, Ernesto Leyva!

Flyweight (125 lbs) Sonny Ashton (1-0) vs. Angel Diaz (Debut)

Diaz flys out of the corner landing knees, but Ashton responds with knees of his own and body shot. Ashton has cage control, but Diaz hip tosses him and had back control looking for a rear naked choke causing Ashton to tap out!

Your winner by rear naked choke at 1:46 of the very first round and advancing to 1-0, Angel Diaz!

Welterweight (170 lbs) Danny Llamas (Debut) vs. Aaron Landry (Debut)

Landry starts off aggressive with punches and drags Llamas down into a guillotine, but Llamas pops up quick, but still Landry has cage control finishing off Llamas with an uppercut to the body winning his debut by TKO!

Your winner at 31 seconds of the very first round from the blue corner, Aaron Landry!

Women’s Lightweight (155 lbs) Ashlee Grant (Debut) vs. Anita Hoehenleiter (1-0)

The German comes out with right jabs pressing Grant against the cage, but the American forces her way out only to be caught in a front face lock, pressing Hoehenleiter into the corner, but unfortunately, loses via standing guillotine.

Your winner at 1:23 of the very first out of the blue corner, Anita Hoehenleiter!

Welterweight (170 lbs) Sergey Martirosyan (1-0) vs. Cruz Martinez (1-0)

The Armenian came out furious with knees, kick and a flurry of punches, taking Martinez to the ground three times in the first round. Unfortunately for Martirosyan, slipping from an attempted head kick gave Martinez cage control, but unfortunately for Martinez he landed in Martirosyan’s closed guard and guillotine. Martinez is able to stand up just as the round comes to an end.

The Armenian lands a spilling back kick to the liver landing in a mount. The two men scramble with Martinez finally landing in Martirosyan’s closed guard as the round comes to a close.

The finally round is underway and no one is willing to give an inch. Martinez drives Martirosyan into the cage ending up in a front face lock, but the Armenian fights out of it, wrestling Martinez to the ground. This one comes to an end and has gone to the judges.

Your winner by unanimous decision out of the red corner, Sergey Martirosyan!

Catchweight (165 lbs) Arsalan Homayun (Debut) vs. Yaskin Solano (1-1)

Solono after a great scramble takes Homayun’s back and wins by rear naked choke, celebrating his first victory with a backflip.

Your winner by rear naked choke at 50 seconds of round number one out of the blue corner, Arsalan Homayun!

Light Heavyweight (205 lbs) Travis Williams (Debut) vs. Michael Reyes (1-0)

Williams is on the attack but Reyes is countering with spinning back kicks and smiles after being punched in the mouth. Reyes takes cage control and landing knees, but Williams connects with an overhand right, allowing him to force his weight on top of Reyes for an attempted guillotine.

Round two and Reyes takes cage control again attempting a double leg, but keeping his neck, he transitions to a single leg and takes Williams down, but Williams pops back up only to give Reyes his back, but Reyes is riding high and transitions to an armbar that he couldn’t finish.

Third round and the crowd is chanting for Williams. Williams has Reyes against the cage but can’t finish the single leg. Reyes reverse position and Williams goes down. This one goes to the judges with Reyes having top control.

Your winner by unanimous decision out of the blue corner, Michael Reyes!

Women’s Flyweight (125 lbs) Kelly Vanhoy (1-0) vs. Stefani Pogue (0-1-1)

Vanhoy starts with leg kicks forcing a trip, taking Pogue. Vanhoy closed the distance forcing Pogue to fight short. Pogue has been on the defensive end the entire first round.

Round two and Vanhoy again closes the distance and takes cage control. Pogue reverses it and lands some knees then an uppercut. Pogue looks like to have taken the advantage in the second round.

It all comes down to this as Pogue and Vanhoy have one more round before putting it in the hands of the judges.

Vanhoy is in Pogue’s guard, who’s working towards a triangle, but the bell rings and it’s all over.

Your winner by unanimous decision out of the red corner, Kelly Vanhoy!

Flyweight (125 lbs) Hugo Aranda (2-2) vs. Thomas Landeros (1-2-1)

Landeros is the more intense fighter as he’s gone for the ground-and-pound early. Aranda is up quick, but Landeros takes him back down against the cage and it was stopped by the referee.

You’re winner by TKO in the first round out of the blue corner, Thomas Landeros!

Bantamweight (135 lbs) Michael Derderian (0-1) vs. Vince Cachero (1-1)

Round one starts off with the fighters sizing each other up without anyone really dominating.

Round two goes to the ground Cachero dominating the top position, but Derderian pops up to his feet as the round comes to an end.

Third and final round to decide it all is underway. Both men exchange head kicks and have decided to keep it standing for the first half of the round. Derderian slips as Cachero capitalizes on it landing in his guard.

This one goes to the judges and your winner by unanimous decision out of the blue corner, Vince Cachero!

Welterweight (170 lbs) Scorio Sky (2-0) vs. Lance Bush (Debut)

Professional wrestler, Scorio Sky has continued his MMA ways by returning to University of MMA to take on Lance Bush in his debut. Bush isn’t intimidated and strikes first with leg kicks, but Sky muscles Bush into the cage. Bush reverses it by pressing Skyto the cage. Sky breaks free and throws an overhand right that misses. Bush is able to get cage control again unloading a combination, but Sky is able to fight his way out as the round comes to a close.

Sky comes out and unloads on Bush, Bush ties up but ends up in a front face lock against the cage. Sky lands a Superman punch and Bush takes Sky down with a double leg. Sky attempts an arm triangle from he back as the round comes to a close.

Bush is not intimated and starts out as the aggressor in round three. Sky attempts a lunging uppercut but misses. Sky closes the distance. Sky lands a couple of knees to Bush’s face as the fight comes to a close.

Your winner by split decision out of the blue corner, Lance Bush!

University of MMA Lightweight Championship Tournament (155 lbs)
Pious Enilolobo Jr. (3-1) vs. Julio Lopez (3-0)

Enilolobo slams Lopez to the ground and starts dropping hammer fists from the side mount early. Lopez reverses positions and ends up in half mount but Enilolobo bucks and rolls to top position. The two men stand up and Enilolobo scoop slams Lopez. They get back up to their feet and Lopez is bleeding from his mouth. The round ends with both men exchanging knees form the clinch.

Round two and Mike Beltran calls the fighter to the ring. Enlilolobo lands an overhand left and takes Lopez to the ground yet again. Lopez reverses positions and is in full mount dropping the ground-and-pound. They are back up on their feet and Lopez has Enlilolobo in a standing guillotine. Lopez takes Enlilolobo, gound-and-pounds him out, licks the blood off his gloves and wins by TKO in the second round, advancing to the next round of the Lightweight tournament!

University of MMA Welterweight Championship (170 lbs)
Roman “The Gladiator” Todorovich [Champion (6-1)] vs. Jarett Conner (4-2)

Todorovich drops Conner with a knee but Conner is able to roll Todorovich into his guard. Todorovich catches Conner in an armbar and even after being slammed with it, holds on for the first round victory, dislocating Conner’s elbow to retain his Welterweight title!

Your and still University of MMA Welterweight Champion, Roman “The Gladiator” Todorovich!

University of MMA Lightweight Championship Tournament (155 lbs)
Lance Lee (2-0) vs. AJ Lavarias (3-1)

Round one starts off as a brawl as Lee is setting the pace. Lavarias bodyslams Lee to end the round.

The second round begins with both men still feeling each other out as Lee goes for a spinning back kick followed by a haymaker. Lavarias takes Lee’s back but can’t finish. Lee knocks Lavarias down with a right hand, jumps on him and finishes the fight.

Your winner and advancing to the next round of the Lightweight tournament, Lance Lee!

University of MMA Featherweight Championship (145 lbs)
Tommy “The Spaniard” Aaron (4-0) vs. Sergio Perez (4-1)

Perez comes flying out with a double leg taking Aaron to the ground early. Perez has retained cage control the entire first round, but Aaron still can’t break free as Perez transitions from side mount to guard. Aaron stands up but only to be placed in a standing guillotine. Aaron breaks free, but Perez continues the onslaught.

Aaron catches him with a right hand, goes for the ground-and-pound and the referee stops it.

You’re winner by TKO in the very first round and still University of MMA Featherweight Champion, Tommy “The Spaniard” Aaron!
