E3 Top 5 Moments From a First Timer

The Electronics Entertainment Expo (E3) is one of the biggest and most intense gaming conventions ever and I only had one full day to check out everything. Each booth had its own special set-up, so many games to try out, so much free gear, and the lines that came with all of them. My list is based on my personal preferences and you may not agree with everything, so to each their own.

  1. Getting In

I am putting this on the list because never in my life did I think I would be able to attend E3 (Thanks Mike). I work in physical therapy and I compete in powerlifting competitions as a hobby, so never did I think I would be able to attend the biggest gaming convention ever. The kid in me was jumping for joy the day I was told I was approved to attend E3. Walking through the doors was well beyond overwhelming. Each booth went all out to advertise themselves and draw in the crowds. Speaking of the crowds…

  2. The Attendees

Prior to attending E3, my colleague, Kevin Fenix, told me that E3 was his favorite convention to attend for several reasons. One of those reasons is the attendees. If you’ve attended a convention before, you know what it’s like to deal with the crowds. You’re bumping shoulder to shoulder down the aisles, people are pushing in the lines, and some have some horrible body odor. The E3 crowd is hands down one of the best convention crowds out there. It was great to meet and talk to new people about their past experiences at the convention, the recent nerd news, and many were just very polite. Kevin and I played a game with four random strangers and we had a great time interacting with all of them. Trust me when I say that interacting with four strangers at a convention is not the first thing I want to do at a convention. I’m not anti-social or anything, but I’ve had one too many nerd debates that made me want to hulk out on someone.

  3. Testing the Games

This one was going to be obvious for a first-time attendee. Unfortunately, I did not get to try out all the brand new games because the lines were incredibly long and I only had one day to experience everything. I did get to try out some indie games and Escape Room in a Box: The Werewolf Experiment. The escape room in a box was especially unique. I have played eleven escape rooms and was unsure if this game would provide the real experience of an escape room. To my surprise, the escape room in a box provided most of what you would find in a regular escape room. I highly recommend this game and you can find out more about it on their kickstarter.

  4. Virtual Reality

Virtual reality is all the rage these days and I have not been able to try any VR equipment until E3. My personal favorite was the Vusix iWear Video Headphones. Unlike other VR headsets, the Vusix is compatible with all consoles and I can keep my glasses on while wearing the headset comfortably. Being able to keep your glasses on while playing VR is easily going to appeal to at least half of the gaming world. The graphics are amazing and the audio is superb to boot. You can find out more about Vusix on their website.

  5. God of War

Do I really have to explain this one?

    Happy gaming.

E3 2016

The Verdict

From a first timer, E3 is an amazing event and a must for all gamers. E3 is hyped to be one of, if not, the biggest gaming convention every year and for good reason.
