Perfect for the completitionist, the casual gamer, and any Tomb Raider fan – Rise of the Tomb Raider: 20 Year Celebration eGuide Review

Tomb Raider: 20 Year Celebration eguide

Prima Games brings us their Rise of the Tomb Raider: 20 Year Celebration eGuide, showing us once again that their strategy guides are the best on the market. Rise of the Tomb Raider originally came out last year along with a Prima strategy guide, and this year, they’ve taken that same guide and enhanced it for the PS4 special edition. However, this guide can still be used to help you through the game on any of the other platforms (Xbox 360, Xbox One, or PC).

Presentation

Prima Games’ eGuides are always a great, easy-to-use version of their hard copies and this one is no exception. Every detail that they go into is about how to best control Lara Croft, find collectibles as you play through the campaign, or how to navigate through the maps. Most sections of the guide have an overview and every aspect of the game is pretty much covered throughout. Even after you beat the game and want to take on the expeditions, they give you tips and strategies on how to get through each level quickly and efficiently. The interactive maps are a nice touch, as you can literally scroll through the maps and find anything you need or missed.

The character guide is one of my favorite parts of strategy guides because it gives a thorough description of the important characters and doesn’t spoil any of the game. The achievements section is a nice addition and has a lot of useful explanations for some of those achievements you might not quite get. Another added benefit of Prima Games’ eGuides is that they are desktop and mobile-friendly and work exactly the same on each platform. Overall, this guide is aesthetically well-thought-out and very user-friendly for however you’ll use the guide.

Usefulness

Whether you’re a beginner or completionist, this guide proves more than handy for any type of gamer. I usually like to complete games without a strategy guide, but with Rise of the Tomb Raider, some of the puzzles can get a little challenging and you might need the help. Each section of the guide is detailed just enough so that you can complete the game without hassle and, who knows, you might even pick up a few items on your way to solving some of those puzzles. This guide includes everything you need to complete the regular game, DLC, and special edition content for the 20 year celebration. Opening the interactive map and having the walkthrough up is a valuable feature that you can do on your desktop and/or mobile device, that you wouldn’t be able to do with a hard copy. Beginners can play this game without having to have played any other game in the series because this guide provides everything you need to get started. Completionist will find it beneficial for the Surviving Expeditions, Collecting Treasures, and Achievements sections. I found it more than useful to open up this guide whenever you need help on a section, since it’s so easy to navigate, bookmark, and close for later use.

Conclusion

Prima Games’ just so happens to make an old strategy guide worth buying again for the added bonuses that Rise of the Tomb Raider: 20 Year Celebration eGuide brings to the table. Just as a read through, you’ll see the guide covers as much of the game as possible without ever spoiling any of Lara Croft’s story. The pictures for each section are always just enough for you to know exactly what they’re describing without the overbearing nature of looking first and reading later. This guide is a must-have for any range of gamer and definitely enhances all gameplay, while still giving you the nostalgia of being Tomb Raider.

This eGuide is currently available from Prima Games for $9.99
