New Zealand director Taika Waititi made his first foray into blockbuster territory with Thor: Ragnarok, the third film from Marvel Studios focused on the God of Thunder. Needless to say, Taika Waititi delivered a hit. Thor: Ragnarok was one of the best reviewed Marvel Studios films and easily the highest grossing of all the Thor movies. Now this colorful and hilarious entry into the Marvel Cinematic Universe is geared up to land on Digital HD February 20,2018 and DVD/Blu-ray (including 4K) on March 6, 2018.
In Thor: Ragnarok, the eponymous God of Thunder (Chris Hemsworth) faces his greatest challenge yet when the nefarious God of Death, Hela (Cate Blanchett), is freed from the isolation that Odin (Anthony Hopkins) has kept her in for centuries. Not only does Hela destory Thor’s mighty hammer Mjolnir, she banishes Thor and his brother Loki (Tom Hiddleston) from Asgard to the junker planted Sakaar. Upon landing on Sakaar, Thor is captured by Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson) and delivers him to the Grandmaster (Jeff Goldblum), the demented rule of Sakaar, so Thor may battle in the Grandmaster’s Contest of Champions. It’s there, of course, that Thor finds himself face to face with his old friend and fellow Avenger the Hulk (Mark Ruffalo).
Like other entries in the MCU, Thor: Ragnarok is colorful and fun piece of pop entertainment. What really makes Taika Waititi’s entry in the MCU stand apart from so many other Marvel films is the irreverent sense of humor that he brings. Thor: Ragnarok is a genuinely hilarious movie that plays on the comedic strengths of Chris Hemsworth, building upon his outrageously hilarious work in Ghostbusters (2016). With splashy, wild visuals, plenty of laughs, and eye-popping action that is just out of this world, Thor: Ragnarok will be a welcome edition in any home video library due to the fact that it’s eminently rewatchable, meaning that depending on your preferred format, February 20th (Digital HD) or March 6th (Blu-ray) can’t come soon enough.
