‘Thor: Love and Thunder‘ reaches new heights for Marvel with their 4DX Experience as witness by fan in Irvine, CA.
Marvel’s ‘Thor: Love and Thunder‘ reaches new heights by surpassing fan expectations, especially in the 4DX experience.
I was invited to an earlier screening of ‘Thor: Love and Thunder‘, but decided to wait an extra week and check it out in 4DX, something I had never done before and man, was I blow away! The movie itself is absolutely incredible, including the pantheon of gods, with Russell Crowe as Zeus, really my only complaint about that scene is that the Assyrio-Babylonian gods that predate Greece by nearly a thousand years, like Ashur, Marduk and Ishtar were completely ignored, but the inclusion of Maori deities, the ancient Egyptians, Chinese, Mayan and Indian ones was a decent trade off.
You have all seen the trailers and know what to expect from a Marvel movie at this point, the chemistry has been well documented between Natalie Portman and Chris Hemsworth. Portman’s Jane Foster as the Mighty Thor was actually better than the comics (which is rare to say) and her attempts in trying to find a catchphrase was a running gag in the film that will make me want to see it again.
Some of my colleagues have referred to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as now the, “M-She-U” because of duds like ‘Captain Marvel‘ or ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness‘ where they have emasculated several of the male characters in order to strengthen the female ones. You know, that old Joss Whedon gender swap trick. However, in ‘Thor: Love and Thunder‘ director, Taika Waititi and his co-writer, Jennifer Kaytin Robinson fully embraced the balance of a loving relationship between the masculine and feminine characters. Thor and Dr. Jane Foster aka Mighty Thor complimented each other without either being the damsel in distress.
Christian Bale could have sat in the kitchen reading the phone book and would have been anything shy of amazing as Gorr. He can truly play anything and continues to prove his talents in every role he takes on.
Now, on to the 4DX experience! I have never seen a movie in 4DX and decided to wait to share it with the fans instead of seeing a traditional screening with my colleagues and man, did they remind me what it was like to be apart of the experience instead of just a critic.
“This is like being in a theater with a family. We aren’t related but we are all connected. We all laugh at the same time, cry at the same time and feel all the emotions together,” said Maria Mendez of San Juan Capistrano, CA. “Yeah, I better hear you crying with us over there!” teased her wife, Kim Ramos, who will be on the new Disney Wish within a weeks time.
Like Mendez and Ramos, this was my first experience in 4DX and I’m still riding the wave. All three of us thought that it was going to be light motion, but when the second major jolt hit, I lost my popcorn. Several times, I almost fell out of my seat from the motion and that make the experience all the more intense. We all felt like we were apart of the action!
“This was my first time seeing a movie in 4DX and after experiencing it, I think it will be my preferred way to see any future Marvel movie. The extra effects were fully immersive and made it feel like I was part of the action. Seeing and hearing other guests in the theater react to the effects also added another layer to the whole experience,” said Allison Termyna, an architect from Corona, CA.
‘Thor: Love and Thunder‘ understood the significance of love, loss, the balance of the sexes, family and forging forward through a time of crisis. They may have dumped on all religions including the ancient gods in an attempt to promote neo-paganism, but promotes hope over nihilism, which is what we want out of our superhero movies.
‘Thor: Love and Thunder‘ comes to theaters on Friday, July 8, 2022.
