One of the most surprising films of the year was Jon Favreau‘s The Jungle Book. Disney has made its fair share of live action versions of its animated classics to varying degrees of quality — looking at you Alice in Wonderland and Alice Through the Looking Glass. But The Jungle Book was a legitimate hit with critics and audiences, adults and children, as it captured the essence of the animated classic in its immersive and engaging cinematic spectacle. Amazingly, The Jungle Book even outgrossed Batman v Superman at both the domestic and worldwide box office, something that nobody — NOBODY! — saw coming.
Now the year’s most unexpected hit is gearing up for its home video release, landing on Digital HD platforms on August 23rd ahead of its Blu-ray release on August 30th.
