For brief minute, director Rupert Wyatt was attached to the long gestating Gambit movie over at Fox. Wyatt left the project that has had a revolving door of directors and has yet to get going. It’s a good thing that Wyatt made for the exit as now he’s nearing the release of his latest film, the high concept sci-fi flick Captive State. Today brings the first teaser for the film that Wyatt co-wrote with Erica Beeney. Like any good teaser, this one for Captive State plays it rather close to the vest, giving us just a modest suggestion as to what we can expect when the film opens in March 2019.
Rupert Wyatt has assembled a strong cast for the mysterious science fiction project, headlined by the great John Goodman, Vera Farmiga, and Moonlight‘s Ashton Sanders.
The modern political climate makes it the perfect time to examine our collective divisions through genre, and hopefully Captive State will be able to craft a sharper commentary on these division than, say, The Purge films. If you’re wondering just what kind of political climate might be present in Captive State, there’s a website set up for The Legislature. Check out the website for The Legislature and check out the teaser for Captive State which Focus Features will be bringing to theaters on March 29, 2019.
The official synopsis for Captive State:
Set in a Chicago neighborhood nearly a decade after an occupation by an extra-terrestrial force, “Captive State” explores the lives on both sides of the conflict – the collaborators and dissidents.
