SyFy, a channel that was once dying out and losing its niche audience has revitalized the genre, first with Battlestar Galactica, followed by Warehouse 13 and then Haven. Now in that next wave of television, SyFy has adapted the best selling book series The Expanse into what will clearly be a new smash hit for them.
The series pilot premieres today online and will make its two-night television debut on SyFy on Monday, December 14 and 15 at 10/9c.
The plot takes us 200 years into the future, where the United Nations has colonized Mars and solar system. The main problem with over population is that water is the most important commodity and is scarce. Tensions rise throughout the Milky Way and Detective Miller (Thomas Jane) is the one who needs to maintain the peace, even though he is considered a traitor to humanity. Life doesn’t get easier when Chrisjen Avasarala (Shohreh Aghdashloo), the head of the UN is the one making sure Earth is taken care of first.
The cast is amazing. It’s sexy, dark with a hint of humor that will have you hooked from the first 10 minutes. The ensemble cast of Dominique Tipper, Cas Anvar, Paulo Costanzo,Wes Chatham and Florence Faivre will have careers on the convention circuit long after the show ends, which won’t be years to come.
Honestly, I wish I could go into details about the series, but really, there is so much depth to the series that will be faster to watch than read my review. My advise, go watch the pilot online, then again in December with the first two episodes. I have already seen the first four episodes and am already eager for the final six of the season.
