Catbug from Bravest Warriors is my Spirit Animal. That being said, April’s edition of The Cantina Scene is running a little bit late because I let Catbug lead the away team and Impossibear do the shopping. With tacos made in friendship and a drink that acknowledges we are all slowly becoming one with Wankershim, it was time to do a meal inspired by Cartoon Hangover’s fan-favorite cartoon, The Bravest Warriors.
Where’s My Big Ol’ Beer: Appetizers and Drinks
It’s Always Been Wankershim
With this pale pink drink, it becomes easy to become one with Wankershim. If you aren’t careful though, you may find yourself spending serious time in the holojohn or as a paralyzed horse..
You will need:
1 shot Gin
1 shot Light Rum
1 shot Vodka
1 shot Triple Sec
enough Cranberry Juice for color
Mix all ingredients together and top with Cranberry juice for a light pink finish. Drink. Contemplate what it would be like if Catbug was Emperor of the Universe.
Sugar Peas, Drop ‘Em
Sugar peas are really more made for dropping. Grab a bag of sugar peas at the grocery store and microwave in a covered bowl with a little bit of water for 2-3 minutes. This time, it’s safe to eat them.
You’re My Friends Now. We’re Having Soft Tacos Later!: The Main Course
Beth Tazuka’s Butter Lettuce Salad
You will need:
Butter Lettuce
Salad Dressing
A hologram program and shirtless buff unicorns (option)
Put the butter lettuce in a bowl. Drizzle with dressing. Put on the dance music and eat.
Catbug’s Tacos for Friends
You will need:
Corn or Flour Tortillas
Two large chicken Breasts
Garlic Salt
Juice from two limes
Cheese for toppings
Onion and cilantro
Avocado (optional)
Lime wedges (optional
Cut the chicken into bite sized cubes and place in a pan on medium heat. Season with a dash or two of garlic salt, and the juice of two limes. Cook until the chicken is white and cooked all the way through. Catbug might accidentally serve uncooked chicken, but Bravest Warriors don’t.
Heat tortillas on the stove by placing a tiny amount of olive or vegetable oil in a skillet. Place one tortilla in at a time to heat, letting each side rest for a few seconds. Put these on a plate and cover with a paper towel to keep warm. I put them in the microwave to keep them warm while we finishing up the other tacos.
Put chicken, onions, cilantro, cheese and whatever other delicious toppings you’d like for your tacos. Share with friends.
Your Mom Said I Could Have Just One Peanut Butter Square: Dessert
Wallow’s Moms Peanut Butter Squares
What’s the best dessert for folks returning from a parallel dimension? If you said Jelly Kid bread, you are a sick human being. Instead, why not Wallow’s Mom’s Peanut Butter Squares?
You will need:
1 stick butter, cubed
1 ½ cup sugar
1 cup flour (glutenfree friends can use all purpose gluten free flour and 2/4 teaspoon of xanthan gum)
2 eggs lightly beaten
½ cup Peanut Butter (smooth works best, but you can also use Super Chinese Peanut Butter)
1tsp vanilla
Preheat oven to 350 Degrees F and grease a 13×9 inch baking pan.
Put peanut butter and butter cubes into a microwave safe bowl and heat until melted. Stir it together until smooth.
Slowly add flour and sugar, then mix well. Beat in eggs and vanilla.
Pour into the greased pan and bake in the oven for 30 minutes, or until lightly browned and the edges pull away slightly from the side of the pan.
.
Notes:
- This meal cost about 30$ without the alcohol and served a group of 4 with leftovers.
- For gluten free folks, the advised flour mix worked perfectly on the first time.
- We watched a lot of Bravest Warriors episodes while we ate and became one with Wankershim.
- Pendleton Ward and Breehn Burns are our heros
- Never let Catbug lead an away team, and keep Impossibear away from sticks
The Cantina Scene is a monthly column written by Lady Victoria Irwin featuring a nerd themed meal that you can pass off to your non -nerdy friends and family. All meals are designed to be done inexpensively, so you’re not breaking the bank. We would love to hear your ideas for themes, recipes, and plans to take over the world.
Bravest Warriors and Catbug are creations of Cartoon Hangover, Pendleton Ward and Breehn Burns. I’m just a nerdy Fangirl making themed meals based off of the things I enjoy. Special thanks to Michael Cantin and his roommates for helping me eat the meal and for showing me the power of the Aeon Worm. Never Doubt the worm.
