Because the news doesn’t have weekends off, niether do I. I’ve been scouring this here internet for all the news that fits, so you don’t have to.
Ant-Man co-screenwriter Adam McKay was interviewed the other day by Crave Online about We The Economy, a series of short films teaching kids about income equality. It’s a pretty good interview, both informative and entertaining, but this particular question and answer are why I bring it to your attention:
“What is your deal with Marvel? Do you have a shot at directing one of their big characters?
I just did a big rewrite on Ant-Man with Paul Rudd and had such a great time working with them that we’re kicking around ideas. But yeah, maybe I would take on one of the characters so we haven’t locked in anything, but discussions are definitely going on.”
So McKay is in talks with Marvel about possibly directing at some point. Known mostly for his Will Ferrell comedies, a superhero film would be interesting, and more proof that Marvel is thinking outside the box when it comes to picking who helms their franchises. Hell, it’s worked so far.
Marvel’s Ant-Man stars Paul Rudd, Michael Douglas, and Evangeline Lilly, and will be released July 17th, 2015.
The CW has released the synopsis for the November 11th and 12th episodes of Arrow and The Flash, bringing us news of the appearances of more DC comic characters to the small screen. Suspicious, Joe tells Barry (Grant Gustin) that he and his friends at S.T.A.R. Labs should look into the army’s involvement. Wells (Tom Cavanagh) informs the team that Eiling was experimenting on his men to turn them into super soldiers. Cisco (Carlos Valdes) confirms one of Eiling’s soldiers, Bette Sans Souci (guest star Kelly Frye), was at the bomb site. The Flash tracks her down and realizes that she’s not setting off the bombs, she is a meta-human who can blow things up just by touching them. NBC’s Constantine pilot episode has been as divisive as can be on comic messageboards and forums, but that didn’t stop it from making an impressive debut to 4.3 million viewers on Friday night. That’s a pretty solid debut any way you look at it. In related news, that episode’s director, Neil Marshall, mentioned to The Hollywood Reporter yesterday:
“I would love to do a Black Widow movie,” saying he found the character “really interesting, she doesn’t have any superpowers, she just has extraordinary skills, and the world that she comes from, being this ex-K.G.B. assassin, I find that really fascinating, yeah.”
That doesn’t mean the Emmy nominated director will be doing it, but it’s definitely on his mind. Hey Marvel, are you paying attention? He’d be perfect for a Nextwave: Agents of H.A.T.E. movie.
