Bleeding Cool is reporting that the long in development Global Frequency is dead before even beginning filming. This is now the second time the Frequency has been lost, after Fox declined to air the finished pilot ten years ago after it leaked online. It was a shame too, as the pilot was actually quite good. This time around, apparently, it’s down to a lackluster script. Warren Ellis was the original writer, with Rockne S. O’Bannon taking over scriptwriting duties, the higher-ups just weren’t happy with what he turned out, and the studio has decided not to go ahead with the project for the time being. Even with Jerry Bruckheimer at the helm it just doesn’t seem like Fox can make it work. Which is weird as this is Warren Ellis’ best idea for a serialized television series.
Another Fox commissioned series, Lucifer, has apparently been given the go-ahead. Bleeding Cool is again reporting that the series, which Fox had ordered a “put pilot” for, has been green-lit with showrunner Tom Kapinos at the helm. After the modest success of Constantine, I expect more DC/Vertigo series to be optioned, and Lucifer seems like the perfect to run alongside Constantine.
In other DC TV news, the CW has released the first photos of Brandon Routh in costume as Ray Palmer’s alter-ego, the Atom. They are definitely embracing the sci-fi nature of his origins with this look. His first appearance in costume will be on the Arrow episode “Nanda Parbat”, airing February 25, 2015.
Leaving Starling City behind, let’s take a trip to Hell’s Kitchen. A very brief trip, mind you, with this teaser trailer for tomorrow’s teaser trailer of the Netflix/Marvel Daredevil series. It really doesn’t give us much, but I guess that’s why they call it a teaser. All episodes will be available April 10th, only on Netflix, and probably torrent sites as well.
