Last night, I had the pleasure of attending Terri Clark’s concert at the Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts, and as someone who was previously unfamiliar with her work, I can confidently say that I was absolutely blown away by her performance.
From the moment she took the stage, it was clear that Clark is a true force in country music. The energy in the 1,400-seat venue was electric, and her stage presence was captivating. It felt less like a concert and more like an intimate conversation in a small group setting. Her storytelling skills drew the audience in, making every song feel personal and relatable.
Clark’s setlist featured hits that included “No Fear” and “Girls Lie Too,” both of which turned me into an instant fan. The way she commanded the stage was impressive, complemented beautifully by her talented backup band, especially a barefoot fiddle player whose lively performance added a unique flair to the show.
One of the highlights of the evening was Clark’s anecdote about the song “If I Were You.” She revealed that she had a surprise collaboration with Kelly Clarkson on the track, sharing how Clarkson had texted her out of the blue after being told by an agent that working with the American Idol winner was unlikely. This behind-the-scenes glimpse into her creative process added another layer of appreciation for her artistry.
As a Grand Ole Opry honoree and the only Canadian female member, Clark’s impact on the genre is profound. With over five million albums sold and numerous accolades, including three JUNO Awards and induction into the Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame, she has truly made her mark.
The audience was on their feet for the entire encore, and it was easy to see why. Clark’s combination of exceptional talent, genuine warmth, and engaging storytelling makes her a must-see performer. I left the concert not only with newfound admiration for her music but also eager to explore more of her extensive catalog. This was an unforgettable evening that showcased the magic of live country music.
The next event at the Cerritos Center for the Performing arts is, Nicole Zuraitis – How Love Begins on Saturday, October 26, 2024.
