Release Date: August 10, 2016
When I first heard that they were doing yet another Lois Lane gets Superman’s powers story, I was disappointed. How many times can that gimmick be rehashed? How many times can Superman die and we get a Lois Lane version of Superwoman, who will eventually lose her powers again when Supes returns?
Thankfully, there was a twist I didn’t expect and that was Lana Lang going nuclear! Farm girl, engineer, newscaster teaming up with Metropolis newspaper virtuoso to not give us one Superwoman but we get TWO Superwomen!
Jiminez captures the buddy cop feel of opposing personalities teaming up for the greater good to take on a megalomaniac who wants to rule the world. Unlike other comics where the guy in the metal suit’s tech never fails, Lex Luthor, the self-proclaimed new Superman fails in protecting the harbor from an attack, which the new super powered duo take it upon themselves to save the city.
Unfortunately, this unknown new super powered villainness got a one up on the Superwomen team and we have to wait for issue two to find out what happens next.
Jimenez does double duty with writing and penciling this story and normally I would have thought Santorelli’s inks would have been too heavy for some some artists, it made the story standout.
Next month is going to be interesting especially when we find out what Lana Lang is going to do with her new found powers.
The hesitation of wanting to read another Lois Lane becoming Superwoman story fades when you realized that it is in good hands with Jimenez.
